mod_jitsi Account

A mod_jitsi Account unlocks the reporting and analytics features of the plugin. It is optional and free, hosted at the portal.sergiocomeron.com portal, and registering takes less than a minute.

Why registration exists

Because mod_jitsi is open source, anyone could modify the code and bypass the registration check — and that's fine. Registration is not about locking features for commercial reasons. It exists purely so the developer can see which Moodle versions, server types and features are actually being used, and focus development where it matters most.

Features that require an account

The plugin works fully without an account — only the reporting and analytics layer is gated. Registering enables:

Feature What it unlocks
Attendance report Three-tab report: live session attendance with dates, recording views with heatmap, and a course overview
Recording view tracking Progress bars showing which parts of each video each student has watched, persisted between sessions
Viewing heatmap Aggregate heatmap per recording showing the fraction of students who watched each time segment and replay counts, with a hover tooltip listing which students watched each part
Course overview Aggregated view of all Jitsi activities in a course: sessions, participants, top recordings and a student engagement ranking
Session usage statistics Site-wide aggregated stats with a daily breakdown

How to register

  1. Go to Site administration → Plugins → Activity modules → Jitsi.
  2. In the mod_jitsi Account section at the top, click Register & enable.
  3. Enter your email address and submit the form.
  4. Check your email and complete registration at the portal.
  5. Return to the settings page — it automatically detects your registration and activates the features.

What data is collected

When you register, the following information is stored:

  • Your email address
  • Your Moodle site name and URL
  • An anonymous hash of your site URL (for telemetry)

Once registered, a weekly anonymous ping is sent automatically, containing:

  • Server type
  • Moodle version
  • Plugin version
  • Activity count
  • Which optional features are enabled

What is never sent

No user data, course data or session content is ever transmitted. The ping carries only the aggregate technical fields listed above.
